THRESHOLD DRAIN and grate SYSTEMS

The relentless beating sun, wickedly strong winds and pouring rain all shape the construction materials required to create safe, functional outdoor designs. As balconies, patios, pathways and other outdoor spaces are exposed to rain, (often wind driven or in copious volumes), the most intelligent approach to preventing pooling water or flooded indoor zones is the use of Threshold drainage systems.

Preventing water ingress is possible via several options, including the standard balcony and entryway drainage methods. However,  a relatively new apparatus – Threshold drainage and grate systems – offers a number of key advantages over traditional measures.

THRESHOLD DRAINS: Design Combating the Deluge

Water trickling or flooding into any indoor space is problematic. Besides the risk of accidents such as slips and falls, long-term, pooled water can damage flooring and create crevices and cracks, compromising the structural integrity of any space.

To avoid this, outdoor spaces were traditionally stepped down from indoor spaces. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect solution as it becomes a trip hazard, as well as presenting a challenging obstacle for special needs access.

In order to meet the provisions of AS1428, step downs are often required to be eliminated. This is where Threshold drainage systems can be applied as an ideal solution to supply uninterrupted access for indoor to outdoor living.

Threshold drains are a linear drainage system that can be installed alongside doors that separate indoor and outdoor spaces. Integrated into the door track itself, threshold drainage systems can be used with any type of door – sliding, bi-folding or hinged doors. The brilliance of Threshold drains is that they both prevent water ingress by draining excess water away, and ensure a level transition between the two spaces.

Our threshold drainage systems are Australian-made by us, in accordance with Australian standards.
